LIMA (Reuters) - A 6.8-magnitude earthquake shook buildings in Peru's capital city, Lima, on Wednesday, witnesses and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The USGS said the epicenter of the quake was 51 miles north of Pucallpa, in the Peruvian Amazon forest close to the Brazilian border.

The USGS said the quake, initially upgraded to a magnitude 6.9, was 90.2 miles deep

I seriously pray that the Cascadia Fault doesn't pop off. If it does the 8+ in Japan will be nothing in comparison....

Earthquakes are horrible... it is almost a year since the 7.1 that triggered the wave of after shocks that included the 6.1 that destroyed much of my city... nothing every funny about them... my thoughts are with everyone who has experienced them over the past few days... particularly those that live in areas that don't normally have them... be safe...

Yeah this was 5.8 the biggest in 67 years on the east coast Of the USA. With the anniversary of 9/11 coming up in 3 weeks It really was nothing to laugh at, especially since it was felt here in DC up to NY where the planes struck. It cracked the Washington Monument and the National Cathedral had pieces fall from it
