Battle - Strength vs Defense
Defense is actually agility as well, so swinging and missing is accredited to defence instead of speed. This is what confused me a LOT when I first started, because it would make sense logically that your speed is your agility when it actually isnt.
Quoted from the wiki: "The amount of damage done is determined by taking the strength of the attacker and subtracting the defense of the opponent
This means that having even 1 point more defense than you have strength (taking into account your stamina at that point in time), your attack WILL miss. Dont forget, also, that your stats are randomized during each battle for variety.

BarbarianAnswer is : Random factor!
- To make battles unpredictable, realistic and a bit more random,
each player's strength and defense are randomized on each attack:
- The attacker's strength may be anywhere from 90-110% of their normal value (after taking stamina into account)
- The opponent's defense may be anywhere from 80-105% of their normal value (after taking stamina into account)
- You lose some stamina every time you land a hit on your opponent

The random factor does make sense but it is true what Darth says
If I have 15000 str
And the opponent has 15001 def
I would just constantly miss.
Not necessarily. If the random factor made your strength 16,000 and their defense 14,000 there's a chance for some real damage there
well only for 1 attack.
Then my stamina would go to 80% making my str 12800
Meaning I would miss him for the next 10 attacks until his stamina went down
But my 10 missed attacks also drains my stamina.
Just seems a bit unfair
Someone could just sit there and train their defence non stop and every single round would be a tie.
There is no advantage for having high speed and str against someone with low str low speed but really high defence.
I feel that I having high str and speed against a defense whore, I should atleast him him with lower attacks, instead of just missing.
Loads of small attacks would make it fair and make it possible to beat someone with mega high defence.

Its true, speed is the least useful stat in battle. Having a higher speed is more of an obligation. The only time it really is useful in battle is if you and your opponent had similar strength and defence. Then it makes a BIG difference.
Ive noticed that speed is only really helpful for crimes and mugging. So, if you dont care about crimes, and you never go above your bank amount, speed can almost be ignored.
I wouldnt suggest completely ignoring it, though...
