By using the formula provided: (2 x an)-1

(2 x 1)-1=a1 or 2

The 1 inside the bracket increases by +1 everytime because the sequence goes a1, a2, a3

(2 x ?)-1=a2

(2 x ?)-1=a3

Substitute the new numbers into the brackets

(2 x 2)-1=a2

(2 x 3)-1=a3

With this you can workout a2 and a3

(2 x 2)-1=3

(2 x 3)-1=5

I wont get it without someone speaking it lol

Artix, the answers are correct, but the logic is not.

You claim that a-sub-n increases by 1 each successive step in the sequence, but that is incorrect. n increases 1, which merely indicates progression to the next step.

---

If you look at the terms, you have a-sub-(n+1) and 2(a-sub-n)-1

a-sub-n just means a specific value for a term in a sequence. a-sub-(n+1) means the step in the sequence that follows a-sub-n. So the formula, when translated to english is:

The next term is equal to the initial term doubled minus 1.

The initial term (a-sub-1) is 2, so you double and subtract 1 to get a-sub-2=3

The initial term (a-sub-2) is 3, so you double and subtract 1 to get a-sub-3=5

---

Also, paloma, you talk a lot of shit to be having trouble with basic algebra.
