I disagree, the forum is very useful to newbies who actually search for answers and it breeds a community vibe. A special respected-only forum maybe, but even that seems unecessary

maybe respected allows the chatbox and ignore feature i'd be willing to pay favors or whatever to get that. Not to hi-jack the thread (even tho, it sounds like mufasa already said no..so topic closed) but this is exactly why we need ignore:
