since the question of evil came up and it is related to the main topic, let me say a few things:

all of us have experienced bad things in our lives, bad enough that we might question whether there is a God, or if there is, we might question if God is uncaring, unloving or incompetent. But then many of us have also experienced awesome coincidences or spiritual experiences that make us wonder how someone could think there isn't a loving God.

some of us (not me) have experienced life altering, shocking evi like physical/sexual abuse, the death of a child or something of that nature. Free will explains how God allows such horrors, but it doesn't help us survive it and move on. Argument for or against the existence of God make no sense at such a time, what can help is receiving love, justice and support. God did not prevent evil from coming to you, but God can bring some good out of it if you'll let it happen.

so what's the purpose of religion? It is to offer love, justice and support to people in need. Religion and religious people who are about something else have missed what God is really trying to do. And if you're atheist or agnostic, you still have to ask what the purpose of life is and how you might best use your short time here. Strictly speaking as an atheist, you might argue that everything is by chance and there is no purpose or meaning, or, as an agnostic you might say purpose is unknowable and the best outcomes uncertain. But even then, we owe it ourselves to try and make the world a better place in some limited way.

Whether you believe or not is up to you, no one is going to force that on you, not even God. I do believe though, that life is better and more worthwile if you believe in something good... and then live it out.

which religion is the correct one?

Thats question can be answered but there is never 1 official answer.

my theory about this is when you die, you go to some place, where there are many boxes with the names of a religion on each, inside 1 box is a smily face, thats the true religion, inside the others are sad faces. pick a box

no religion is correct, they're all flawed. All people are flawed too, but its still worthwhile to fall in love with one and work together for a better life. Same for religion. I'm a Christian, it works for me.
