no one is makeing you pay for any thing you chuse to pay or go with out

it comes down to the people willing to pay real cash. Throw 100s of dollars into an internet game so they can get their rocks off

no different to paying for a lot of other entertainment...

there are a lot of MMOs out there(I've played quite a few of em), most are FtP and they pay their operating expences through profits from item malls or like how it's done here. If you put money into something, it is an investment whether it is for entertainment or survival. Those games that we play that have item malls and we buy from em, we just invested real world money. We can never get that back from the game runners, however, if there is a buyer in the real world who has no problem paying the return on said investment...what is the problem with that? I have personally sold a char from the game RuneScape. I pumped serious $$$ into that game over a 2 year period...I did not get even a fraction of my investment back, but seeing how I was done with the game, it was better than nothing. Now there is a few games out there where an enterprising individual can make a living playing games and getting high up in ranks. Those who want to play those games are going to fork out tons of $$$$ for their investment...and if they are lucky, will get a massive return on it. The largest virtual real-estate sale was done on one of those games. A whole island was sold for 500k real world $$$!

second life is one of em, but the highest real estate sale was from a game called Entropia. There you play with real world money for everything. If you want game cash, you pay in Real money and it is converted to game currency. If you want to play the game for free, you work your ass off selling what is called sweat to the citezens(those who pay to play).
