So before you answer this here is what happened, a mom of 16 year old came to my gym and yelled at me because I refused to let him renew his crossfit membership. A little more info, when you join up for a crossfit membership for the first time at my gym you can only get a one month probational membership cause its a pain when they book your time for one on one training and they no show. Well this young man no showed 3 times and they were his last 3 one on ones for the month, he didn't call or rebook. So now I won't let him rejoin and his mom came in to yell at me.

So is it wrong that I won't let him do crossfit? (he can go to the otherside to the regular gym and have his normal workout)

hmm, I can understand about the time wasting, as I have started to charge for 'appointments' for shoots.

If someone comes to me to book something, grand, that's that day set in stone. If they want to change, not a problem, but it better be in advance by at least 24hours, and to re-schedule I'll be as helpful as possible, but they are going to be bounced around in my diary until they hear a day they agree to.

If they no-show, that's tough titty, it just cost them to waste my time.

I'll happily re-book them, but 50% of the fee paid is the non-refundable deposit, so they still have to pay that little bit more since I got no prior notice.

If it's due to some unforeseen circumstance (car crash on way, death in family, etc) then that's different, I'll reschedule and not charge extra.

But then there are the annoying ones....the ones that just want to waste your time every other day talking about their shoot, what they want from it, etc.....kinda not how I work, I offer options from a menu, not everything from a buffet, but if they want something in particular, I'll accomodate. But some people aren't happy with 1-2 hours talking to a photographer who already has it nailed in his head when they book the shoot, they want to come back and waste my time when I'm busy with someone else's post-shoot edits, in which case they get up to 1 hour of my time to talk it over while they are booking, and they have one other 1 hour appointment which they can use as either 2x30mins or 1x60mins either a week before the shoot, or longer, just to make sure all bases are covered.

But I was nearly ready to tell a client to go find someone else as I was getting at least 3 days a week of phone calls from them, and I mean at least half a dozen in the one day, and this went on for toooo damn long.

Personally man, time wasters are time wasters, pointless, take their money, do your job, and try not to give them a question to ask, answer everything before they ask it and give them no reason to come back except to spend again; just make sure you state that you don't take kindly to having your time jerked around, etc, let them know the procedure for re-scheduling, etc, and especially the costs and what they loose out on if they are just a no-show, maybe even hold them back for a session going over old routines as they need to catch up and re jog the memory

*shrugs*

Right now when you signup and pay for the one month you get 4-16 lessons/workoutsand you are expected to attend as many public classes/workshops, had him setup for 4 lessons and 4 workouts 1 of each a week. And I no the he stilled paid and the gym made money, but those days could have gone to another person that would have come to all of the days he/she booked, as for reschedualing, depends on the the time of the year, winter if you can get a hold of me 3hours before the time you booked, then i dont mind cause hey people get sick, in the summer and outside cold and flu season 24 hours at the latest. Oh and D4ve I dont no how you do photography, dealing with that 1-2 hours ya no way i'm about to deal with that

I'm big into working out and if someone did that to me there is no way i would let him waste my time.  Most gyms that i train at would feel the same way. The boy didnt even call.  Mizpeg is right the boy is only doing it because his mom wants him to.  I would just tell them i'm sorry but there are so many people the want my help that are dedicated to what i do and bettering themselfs that i need to spend time with them. I just cant fit you in at this time. If i see him coming in and working out on his own and showing so dedication i my change my mind but for now i cant fit you in. Thank you and have a great day
