And they didn't even predict the end of the world, just the end of a cycle. Which, if you look into it, they have had a few of these "cycles" come and go and no huge "end of the world, human extinction" happened. But, just like the old fart in the link I posted, people will always coin something that will grasp a large portion of sheep, erm sorry, population and use it to make a buck.
