Life Choice
So the cat my family has had since I was born got attacked by dogs today. We took him to the vet a couple hours ago and we were just informed he had the cat version of AIDS and we should put him down soon since recovery is highly unlikely. We are aloud to take him home to say goodbye or even just keep him, but the vet said it would just cause him pain adn he wouldn't last over a week. I know it sounds stupid for me to think about keeping him considering what the vet said, but He has been our only pet for 15 years and its hard to think about putting him down. So keeping him even just for the night to say bye is the wrong thing to do and putting him down is the right thing to do correct? Im just kinda lost in what to do

killer2310Put him down bro, Its better for him not to suffer. Its hard but after awhile you'll get over it
You may want to say goodbye but like i said, i would put him down to end the suffering

u should shoot the dogs
i agree with killer cuz the more hes alive the more pain he will have
I wasn't there at the time to see what they look like, so all I have to go on is what my mom says the looked like, but if some dogs matching her description come around I wont hesitate too

Stoneco...It's a very tough choice man. Maybe if there is something to do to eaze the pain while you bring him home then you could. But if not then the best thing for you to do would be to get him put down, i'm nearly sure your cat would love you just as much if you done that much for him rather than have him go through so much pain. Even though i'm against animals being put down, in situations like yours, it's the best thing to do.
i had to put my dog of 13 years down as he was having difficulty breathing due to an enlarged heart impeading his lungs...most of the time he looked and acted perfectly normal and it was heart wrenching to think such a beautiful animal could be suffering, but that is exactly what would happen the other times in a day...I recommend, as hard as it is to conceive, due the right thing fr the cat and put him down...typically it is our human vanity that allows us to keep something around for sentimental value but not nessesarily for what it best for that creature
Take some time to say goodbye. Spend a night or two (or however long you need) and love the shit out of him. Cats and Dogs know when it is time believe it or not. But, to let him stay in pain and try to nurse him back is a bad idea in my humble opinion. To live in constant pain is no way to live especially when you really don't know what's going on or why.
My condolences man. Seriously, you have my condolences. We are getting ready to put down our wiener dog here soon as well. So I kind of know how you feel.

Personally I would get a second opinion. I knew someone that had a dog and their vet said you should put it down, he wont live long. He'll just suffer. They took him to another vet and they told him with the right medication he could live a full life. Now this dog was young but its allways wise to get another opinion. Then if they said the same Id spend some time with him and put him down. Animals cant speak so you dont know how much there hurting. Its just not right to let him live in pain even though it will be hard and thats understandable.
