Largely because of executive orders, the president as of now is more powerful than he should be, traditionally you're right the executive branch couldn't fuck up or fix major issues but now he can.

The president can end all wars, that would directly improve America's national security and greatly reduce the deficit.

Other reforms would have to be done by congress but that would be a very good start.

No see this is where we differ when I say help you assume  I want something from govt (i.e. entitlements, welfare etc.). No when I say help I mean help us to get the nation out of debt, out of wars, help getting drugs out of the communities. All the things you want but you think because I support the Dems you and Shank think I want free stuff from the govt. I pay taxes, I pay bills and Im paying college tuition for my step daughter. 
But you dont like Obama because you dont get " credit card rewards"? Switch cards then! You mad that they made it illegal to charge outrageous rates and to not allow people to go over their limit by opting into a program? Instead of being mad that you dont get "rewards" maybe you should be mad that there are people who have to charge their groceries because even though they work as hard as you they still cant make enough to eat and dont qualify for the "help" that you hate they get!

I dont know anyone who supports people exploiting the system! And I havent heard anyone here say they do either! Wanting the govt to "help us" means the same to me as it does to you! The difference is I dont blame it on one man but the 100's of elected officials who refuse to the right thing. The hundreds of officials who tried to stop the victims of Hurricane Sandy get the aide they need (only one dumb ass Dem voted against it).  Also your so called "Obama phones" which actually help many poor people have access to telecomunication that they wouldnt otherwise have is an effort given so they can have a phone line so they can receive calls because thats a requirement to get hired for a job ( that will get them off your dreaded entitlements).
