For real? Why does this shit always get thrown around? That's not what he was saying at all. What he was saying is those days are long gone, and we all have the opportunity to choose the direction & path our lives take. We're in control of that. We can either take control of it, or sit around and gripe about how hard it is, those who take control, and put in the hard work will succeed.

on the same token.............. we've been trying to hire "college educated kids" for entry-level management jobs and they aren't prepared for the real world. they've all won their participation awards and think they're top shit and that they are doing US the favor by sitting down for an interview with us. it's a joke honestly. there are jobs out there, there is a lack of good people.

"those who majored in engineering and economics earned more than those in the humanities."

I studied engineering in college, worked hard and got good grades. I went into a field that was well insulated from fluctuations in the economy. those decisions paid off.

I'm sorry but if you want to go to college and major in theater or english, well don't hold your hopes up too high.

and worm, Obama wants to send everyone to college. how the fuck is that going to work out? we don't need a population full of college graduates. too much money and debt sending people to college. you can make PLENTY of money if you pick a skill or trade and master it, and if everyone is "college educated", chances are they can't do some nice tig welding or metal fabrication, wire up a 480v electrical cabinet, etc etc., so if you have those skills, you are at an advantage and if that work is in demand, then your price goes up.

"Maybe we should incentivize colleges to more accurately counsel students," Mr. Vedder said. "If you get a degree in business administration,[/u] you may not necessarily walk into a middle-class life. There's a good chance you may end up being a bartender."

where does it say anywhere about theater or English majors?

why is it the colleges fault and they should do a better job counseling students, if it is 2008 and i'm a freshman in college enrolled in business administration, after seeing multiple corporations tossing business people on the street, i'm going to look for a new line of study. but i'm forward thinking, trying to position myself ahead of the rest of people. many people are not, and they pay the price for it.

The cream always rises to the top, no bullshit about it. I've got no degree, but I've worked my ass off, make more than a lot of people who do have degrees. I've take the time to get the right technical certifications along the way, and I'm always willing to put the work in. The problem I see with younger people is that they feel entitled to a high paying job, they don't want to work for it. They think that because they are coming out of college, they should make 50-60k per year, some think they should be paid more. If you are good at what you do, you will get your foot in the door, and work your way up, but you have to be willing to work. Nobody owes us anything in this life.
