Who said the boat had an open top? Boat does not neccessarily mean canoe or kayak. It includes ships as well. So if they were in a closed boat that would explain why they didn't get wet. Duh, winning

Except that if the boat was a closed and sealed vessel so water couldn't get in, it wouldn't sink as the air pocket would keep them dry! You only need an air pocket nearly 8 times greater in volume than the steel in the boat (2.7 for ally) which isn't a lot

There's quite a lot of ships in those lakes. Admittedly most other lakes don't have ships
