Well not entirely true. Under 3m you can have whatever HDMI cable you want, cheapest you can get. Above that, for example 10m with full HD (1080P) many of the cheaper cables will not work at that lenght and thats where you buy a better cable, however no HDMI is worth several hundred dollars but the long ones at 10m and above cost around 100$.
