a player can request to join a gang and if accepted they would pay the favor slot instead of the leader

i dont think thats right...what if a leader lets someone join and then kicks them out the next day just to get that extra spot, the leader can at least make use of it once its purchased

a leader can always charge a fee or tax(on the regular open market) when a new member joins or a monthly fee to members to pay for additional costs and upgrade features

A better solution would likely be to have a "fee" for inmates that are invited to your gang. This wouldn't be built-in, but players could make it happen.

It's a bit more involved, but with our future plans, this system would work:

Leader is recruiting, "Message me if you're interested in joining my gang. 25 favor fee due at join up."

Someone messages leader.

Leader tosses them a gang invite.

They accept.

They deposit 25 favors to the gang vault.

...

We plan to eventually add a vault (not until much later). But simply adding a gang vault would make the aforementioned system work.

It would be better kinda to apply? Then deposit once accepted?

There is no process to apply for gangs, nor are there any plans to add it in the future.

i this idea... so gangs don't have to 'die' just because their leader retires, quits pb (yeah, i know no one ever quits pb) or takes a break...
