I think he is right in putting his prices up as he won't earn shit for himself. For a good run the best he will get is probably 1 or 5k so it will all be a waste. Now it's $50 per item am sure he will earn a steady amount of cash, I mean I charge $50 per item and people like it so yano, it works.
