No offense or anything but I never understand why people say these things. Anyone has the right to be anti-religion, or whatever else they want, but at least understand where religion stems from. People seem to think that religion started with Christianity, but the fact of the matter is most these stories existed thousands of years BC, if you read the Torah you'll see them talking about all the same prophets thousands of years earlier. The idea of Jesus was an idea of re-inspiring the Jews of the time to come back to their faith of monotheism, and charity, and so on. In reality, Jesus never proclaimed a new faith, nor did he want one he was a Jew from beginning to end (even though the Jews ostracized him) -- modern Christianity, I will agree if you research the Roman Empires (Both Rome, and Byzantine) you'll see they deliberately distorted the Bible; cherry picked which books they wanted in threw out ones they didn't want hence we're left with major conflicting scriptures. Then add in the fact that the all-powerful Pope and his minions would destroy any trace of science from Europe for hundreds of years to come even though the scriptures never said things like the earth is flat, and they never detailed a geocentric universe. Then more recent scandals like the child abusing priests further deteriorated the validity of the Church.

My point is the religion of Christianity is a hijacked version of Judaism. If you read the NT for example it paints of all people of Rome as the intellectuals and chosen people, they claim Pontius Pilot was reluctant in crucifying Jesus! When reality contradicts this very much. Modern Christianity is technically called Pauline Christianity. It's all based off the ideology of Paul who spread his version of Christianity to Rome (A man who hated Jesus, and if memory serves me right never really even met him). So now we have a white Jesus, a white pope, and people worshiping three-gods (ahem, trinity) and a cross.

As far as religion being the cause of violence, I actually disagree strongly on this one, there's a few notable cases in history mainly the Crusades that actually show this, and sure there were hundreds of other religious and ideological driven wars in the past, but in all honesty is the secular movement doing any better. Let's go over the facts here, from the British colonizing America and destroying the native population, to WWI, WWII, The Korean War, Vietnam, The 'Cold' War, The two Gulf wars, and I'm sure theres many other examples, if you peel back what started these wars the answer is, Power, Money, Greed, Imperialism, etc. Even if there are some religious tones to the wars themselves, the starting factor has always been power-- plain and simple. So I think it's incomparable, the millions killed in the name of money in the 20th century (and 21st century) to religious wars which in all honesty haven't really been goin on since the Crusades.
