A Kirksville man allegedly killed a person and then dismembered his victim’s body late Sunday night, according to gruesome details released Monday afternoon when charges were filed against the accused.

Paul R. Potter, 49, of Kirksville, has been charged with murder in the second degree, tampering with a motor vehicle and arson. Kirksville Police responded to a report of a vehicle fire after 11 p.m. Sunday, beginning the steps toward the discovery of a much larger crime.

According to court documents, witnesses observed Potter leaving the vehicle that attracted attention at Valley Forge Drive. While investigating, officials learned of another disturbance near Nos. 169 and 170 Valley Forge Drive. Both units were on fire and officers saw Potter throw two objects toward witnesses.

The objects were later identified as human arms.

Three law enforcement agencies are searching for a teenaged robbery suspect who escaped from a detention officer Thursday afternoon.

The 16-year-old was being transported in handcuffs and leg shackles by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department from Edinburg to Mart, near Waco.

But near downtown San Antonio, the teen told his driver he was getting sick.

The detention officer pulled over to let the teen throw up, but instead, he ran away.

He crawled through a hole in a fence and jumped onto a slow-moving train.

That train stopped a short time later near Interstate 35 and Splashtown, but the teen wasn't on it.

Officers from the San Antonio Police Department, the Department of Public Safety and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department are searching the area with dogs.
