Originally posted by Slumdog I believe that all the big countries (USA, China, Russia and others) already have "cyber units" (or whatever they should be called) that can do (and already do) different kinds of "cyber attacks" (hacking etc.) on other countries and on other counties key corporations / companies... In some countries, for example Russia, even the "mafia" have "cyber units" that "attacks" key corporations / companies etc. around the world to gain access to different kinds of information about the these and use/sell that information to make shit loads of money (could be information regarding stocks, future trades, prices, strategic plans, new products etc. ... )...

These units (country level and cyber crime levels) all do some kind of hacking (on different levels ... country level and cyber crime levels) but their attacks we will never hear much about.... These are the real serious "hackers" and damn good at it...

I am saying that Anonymous, LulzSec and other similar groups are not good at hacking... They must be pretty good if they can hack into FBI, PBS, etc... but their way of working is different than the units mentioned above... first of all because Anonymous, LulzSec etc. are not "Anonymous" (they tell us about their successes....)....

Seems like a sensible theory to me

Nah even the hackers know that the rough area it came from can be determined. But the thing is they don't care as China isn't going to arrest them for hacking the CIA for example

I might be completely wrong but from what I have read / heard one way that Anonymous "attacks" a "target" (for example a company) is:

Anonymous have an IRC channel where people (not only people from Anonymous) can post a potential "targets" (not sure exactly how it works) that they think should be attacked... and then people (all the others) can decide for themselves if they agree to attack this target or not.... If they agree they can "borrow" their computers (provide computer power) for the attack ... The more people that agrees on a target (sometimes more than 1000 people against a target) the more efficient is the attack (and if only very few agrees then the attack has no real effect)... The combined computer power can be used for either "spamming" the target (if enough data is sent at the same time then the targets system will/could crash) or "hacking into a targets system"...

I believe that LulzSec works in a different way than Anonymous...

Could be interesting to hear from Mufasa a little bit about how they protect PB from such "attacks"... I know that LulzSec hacked their way into another online game server/system (EvE-online.. ) so it can happen for some of the online games...

Yeah I know that this is being discussed on the internet at the moment... since TeamPoisen prob hacked one of LulzSecs affiliate sites (the Dutch one)...

I have also read that British police arrested a 19 years old man (Ryan Cleary) because he should have some kind of relation to Lulzsec... Lulzsec has published their details of the arrest and published the names of two jackasses (thats what they call them), who Lulzsec claim, have provided the details to the authorities which may have led to the arrest of Ryan Clearly (a former member of Anonymous by the way)...
