When i lived in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago, there was a huge problem with captive snakes growing too big, then being released into the wild by their owners, instead of being taken into animal control.... the owners should be held responsible in my opinion, because the snakes do impact the local environment. But a ban.. thats taking it too far

Yeah we have had the same problem with animals such as the signal crayfish - now in the UK we can only keep one type which is mad because there are many warm water varieties in the UK that wont survive the winter (I keep fish and lobsters) but because on a few idiots, the ecosystem has been damaged and pet owners around the UK have been penalised.

We need strict control laws for animals, but SENSIBLE control laws.

I do love it when someone airs serious and well considered views on an issue that is important to people. Anyway, who cares about animals and if they suffer? SHM

I really don't think a private owner (with the exception of a safari park owner or equally rich person) has the capability to look after a tiger. A caged or chained tiger is just plain cruel. Plus this need the correct interactions with the right plants and animals. This shit is not like keeping a dog. If you happen to be Lord Bath (owns Longleet safari park) then I take it all back. Of course I'd like to be proved wrong, but I don't see it happening and it is not worth the well being of a tiger to find that shit out. They are almost extinct because of us fucks

We are ALL responsible for fucking the environment. Society as a whole. Don't go passing off the blame on to others. I hate to sound like easyas but we are all responsible to some extent. Obviously some much more than others! lol

And if you are Lord Bath, then hats off to you. But it is not just about money... as with a race team, football team or running a company. It takes knowledge and experience. Obviously this can be 'bought' to some extent but history dictates that this isn't usually the case.

EDIT: And to be honest I don't approve of many zoo's treatment of animals. Having seem them in the wild I can't bring myself to see an animal being held in such small enclosures. Though I do understand the role that zoo's play in education and preservation but I think they could do it better.

so basically ur saying nobody should own pets because snakes jus as tigers r wild im assuming more r wild then captive anyway so tell snakeman he is wrong also for owning an animal that is meant to b wild some things have to b captive u kno to keep poulation under control while i dont believe that shuld b the case wit tigers because there is only an estimated 3700 wild tigers n i kno that goes against what i was saying im jus making a point

Tigers are different from snakes! Come on. Tigers have HUGE ranges. Snakes don't. Like the difference between keeping a shark or whale in captivity (that travel 10,000s of miles a year) versus a fish that doesn't travel much (ie. NOT a salmon).

Would you keep a cheetah in captivity? No. A cat? Yes. A condor? No. A budgie? Yes. Not that the latters are perfect but they are better than the formers. Dogs need a lot of area but can be (and should be!) walked every day - you can't walk you tiger... not without a law suit or missing arm. lol
