Everybody wants to conveniently forget that Timothy McVeigh did not use one gun, not one bullet in Oklahoma City. Guns aren't the problem.

people can't use AR's for target practice? I see them at the range all the time, and I haven't seen anybody killed there.

I dont think any of those here complaining even know what the "gun control" actions being put into place actually are. No where do they say anything about taking anyones guns away. Its all basically about keeping guns out of the hands of mentally ill and criminals by requiring better background checks and have tougher penalties for people selling guns to people who arent supposed to have them. the assault weapon ban isnt even in any of the orders thats going to go to congress to vote on. So if youre hard up about having them then write your local congressmen and tell him to vote yea or nay.. But Obama isnt taking anyones guns people.

A common theme for these mass shootings, with a few exceptions, seems to be someone that is mentally ill which gets hold of weapons that do not belong to them in the first place. I believe that gun owners have a responsibility to ensure that their weapons can only be accessed by them; the person the gun was registered to in the first place. It should be considered a personal item and if it is not secure from others I consider that negligence. I had a classmate in high school who got a hold of her fathers gun and was playing with it, she didn't know much about it obviously because she accidently shot herself and died. I am no security expert but I'm sure there is technology that exists which can secure a weapon and also allow them quick access in an emergency. Starting to actually enforce some of the laws that already exist sounds promising, but just because someone qualifies to purchase a weapon doesn't mean they are the only ones that will have access to it or use it.

what happens when your doctor deems you unstable to own a firearm, ATF gets called and gets a warrant to retrieve the gun? do you get a second opinion if you don't think you aren't unstable enough? What is the definition of mentally ill, and at what point of mental instability (as there is no black and white line) do you draw that line between who can exercise their 2nd amendment right and who can be denied that right? A lot of people have been killed in "Chi'raq" and they aren't mentally ill, just gang violence. Lots of kids too, what are we doing to protect those kids?

I think this is a really good question. If someone is mentally disturbed they would be a lot less likely to seek help if they knew that getting help would equate to having rights taken away from them. And there are so many different types of mental disability, most non-threatening. There are many who come back from combat operations with ptsd; should they lose their 2nd amendment rights

for a condition they got through serving their country?
