I like to dance at pow wows but I don't have a regalia yet (almost-sacred outfit used only for dancing) so I was sitting with Mother Diane thinking about something original. I say all fo a sudden "my outfit will scream 'bastard'."
(I'm a metis. half-breed. bois-brule. a bastard of sorts.)
Mother Diane turned to me with an angry face "Ex-cuuuuse-me?" Bottom line she says "Calling yourself a Bastard only hurts your soul." call me all the names you want but i agree.
You think you have been called a bastard for long enough or enough times that you think it's toughened you up but you just stooped down at their level. it's like believing the hype. Is there really a pride to take in calling ourselves what "the masters" were calling us?
Tupac once explained in an interview the difference between a nigger and a nigga but I think it was just excuses. I think it was D4ve who was saying this is an unfair double standard and I agree. We look stupid when we call each other crackers and we are supposed to take offense when you black folks call us that. (Why else would they have come with cracker as an insult?) You look stupid when you call each other niggers but if a white says this he's a racist scumbag.
And be glad I didnt pick the really graphic one for your viewing.
Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday, Muhammad Ali didnt want to be called niggers....
